According to Reuters three Portuguese football clubs have created asset funds where future values of players can be traded:
"We have an economic interest based on the utilisation of the player and we get a share of any future sales. It's an equity stake not a loan so we share the risks ... The football clubs like that,"
I can honestly say that if this was in the UK in 2001 I'd have made an absolute fortune on Wayne Rooney. But then again, if it was about in 1996 i'd have lost a few bob on Michael Branch....
