There is an emotional appeal of the argument for the free society against the planned society of totalitarianism that I must admit to being attracted to. But it is the logic of economics that first captured my imagination.
Since 1991, no central state has existed in Somalia. Without the state, the economy has not collapsed. Some sectors have improved. Here are some pictures courtesy of the BBC of anarchy in action. It does not appear that bad.












Have I missed something from Bob Subrick's post? Far from showing that anarchy "does not appear that bad", the BBC articles seems to highlight the benefits accruing from the transitional government setting itself up in Jowhar.
