-->> Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment II by Andrew Mellor
The big cheese at the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Marshall Marcus, apparently once claimed that seeing Robert Levin perform live is the closest experience one can have to witnessing a performance from Mozart himself – and he may well be right, in one way at least.
-->> Fatboy Slim by myself
Inadvertantly it was a piece of classic Fatboy Slim - slow something down, wait a while, then speed it up again. Hitchcock-esque in his manipulation of anticipation.
Those "good summers" along the periphery tutting away at the mistakes were missing the point. This was not a classical recital to be judged on accuracy to the score. It was a piece of live music: a performance.
-->> Simon Preston by Andrew Mellor
Preston met the challenges of registration and timing head on, making for a spine-tingling finale. After a dignified and poignant evening of performances, a thankful and respectful audience offered a grateful and enthusiastic goodbye. One suspects, and hopes, that this might have been an au revoir.
