Daron Acemoglu has won the John Bates Clark Medal, given by the American Economic Association to the most promising economist under 40. (Here's why). You also have to be a US Citizen to be eligible, but Ken Boulding (born in Liverpool) won it in 1949 - it's always puzzled me.
Download a Powerpoint called Understanding Institutions, that Acemoglu gave at the Lionel Robbins Memorial Lectures, at the LSE. (Found from the New Economist).
Anyway, I thought this is the perfect opportunity to post a list of past winners, (here), along with the list of Nobel winners, (here).
You'll notice that Paul Samuelson was not the first winner of the Nobel - he was the first winner of the Bates Clark, and the second recipient of the Nobel - and that is why I won a £50 bet with Steve!!
