Today was one of those days when I remembered the sacrifice of displacement: my brother, father and Grandfather went to Lords for the C&G Final, watching Hampshire pull off a remarkable win. At 160-1 it looked like Warwickshire might make their target, but their middle order collapsed to fall 18 runs short. I've been playing a lot of Stick Cricket recently, and so I sympathise with them: my openers always make a fair score but when the slow bowlers come on I get goosed.
If there's other Filter^ readers taking part in the Stick Cricket craze, then lets start a league!
Although his cartoon form graces Stick Cricket, the real Richie Benaud took his bow at Lords, and I'm jealous of missing out on sending off a true great. Over the last few days i've perfected my "2 for 22" impression by listening to It's Just Not Cricket, a commentary parady orchestrated by the infamous Billy Birmingham. On the strict assumption that the aformentioned CD is relatively unknown, I'll attempt to encourage all you cricket fans to buy it with a sneak peak at one of the tracks:
Finally, we move swiftly to some geniune "classic commentary", and the winner of BBC Radio 5 Live's Greatest Ever Commentary, was Jonathan Agnew and Brian Johnston. Download, listen, and enjoy the vocal tones of the gentleman's game, at it's best.
Update: 5th September
The Filter^ Stick Cricket league is up and running. Leave your email address in the comments box if you wish to join - top score is currently 194-5.
I've been playing a bit of ashes inspired Stick Cricket recently and would be happy to join a league. My best score so far in a 10 over slog is about 230, the majority of those coming from the first 5 overs!

I'm impressed by the accuracy of this game. I'm as bad at it as I was at real cricket at school.
