For me, the History of Economic Thought (HET) is the field of study that would delight, thrill and intrigue precisely those minds which our profession currently lacks. A perfect illustration of this lies in a new blog by Sandra Peart, called Adam Smith Lives!.
Together with David Levy (in her own words: "I try to translate David Levy into something you might be able to understand") she has formed a prolific writing team that has produced some thrilling, outreaching works. In my first year at GMU I took Levy's econometrics class - a philosophical discourse on constitutions and Plato. The essence of HET is that ideas matter, and the past matters. Treasures get lost, and reinterpretations can reinvigorate lost strands of thought. For more, read Boettke's Why Read the Classics in Economics?
Any blog with categories such as Images & the History of Economic Ideas, and Why the past of economics matters is well worth following!
